Question for the gate keepers..... When was the last time we had new members sign up for this piss hole?
And , how long has this pisshole ( counting the predecessor sites that griffin shut down) been in operation? I'm thinking 15-20 years ago starting with the Conservation Café. Now that was a rocking and rolling adventure...

To answer part of your question this piss hole went live in December of 2005.
That is just after the pay membership was announced from the dudes that took the original conservation cafe over after MDC decided they shouldn't play in the public comment game.
I think MDC gave it up in early 2005.
As for when MDC started it someone with a better memory than me would know better but I would guess it might have been late 2000 or early 01???

As for anything else.....
this pisshole is about 10 years old,populated by a bunch of cranky old yahoos that have already sorted out who is full of it and who isn't.
So there isn't a whole lot of foolishness going on at the moment besides Vortex demonstrating that he can count to two and the budding bromance of you and the Boat Building forum's latest moderator and I guess you can add the Royal faithful and their continuous worries.
If drama is what anyone craves....Young And The Restless is on daily or we can help you start a self guided "Midnight In Ferguson Tour".

No, it was in 1996 or early 1997. At least that's as far back as I can remember and I think I was member #31. Crazy.

Funny to me how the "ner-do-wells" are the ones still standing. Lucky I didn't loose my job checking on this piss hole hourly. The get togethers were epic.

I moved back from NL in 99. Seems to me I had discovered The Cafe by the fall of that year.
Back then MDC was learning the hard way how the internet open forums were a double-edged sword. Rules? Who needs any stinkin' rules?
Those were days rife with ridicule, sarcasm, character assassination, bullying, personal insults and beatdowns. That was some serious-funny entertainment, mostly.
I guess just us miscreants are all that's left now. 
I am OK with that...

I remember for awhile we had quite a few folks who would still show up and post. Even Tim James from EB would make an appearance every now and then.
I guess, in the end, the only ones left are those who just can't be reasoned with.

BTW I still talk to Tim regularly. He is still one of the things that is right about the MDC..
And he has a sense of humor. He attended my wedding 3 years ago and put our wedding gift inside of a green card!

Aw hell, ain't been around this dump in I don't know how long. Poke me head in and you old saps are gettin all sentimental. Man this bunch has gotten soft over the years. I sure do miss the old days too though. Guess I joined MDC's "experiment" back in 1999 and been a part of every subsequent version of The Cafe'.
It's odd to think about the countless hours I spent on the cafe' both at work and at home for many years and now I only pop in for a quick lurk once every 3-4 months. I really miss the flurry of posting activity and constant banter we once had, laughing until my sides hurt and all of the events and gatherings that never would have existed without this place. Most of all I miss the sense of community and brotherhood that we all shared.
If there's anything I've learned in life it's that nothing stays the same for long, life throws you curves and proprieties change. I know mine certainly has in the last 3 years and keeping up with the waterfowl community and finding time for hunting have fallen by the wayside. Duck hunting for me has become something that I just hope to be able to do a few times a season instead of being a way of life. Hope like hell I can turn that around in the future, but what saddens me the most is that I've lost touch with so many that I considered friends. Yeah, I've managed to stay in contact with a couple of you, and I might like a status or comment on a photo of a few others on Facebook, but I really need to do a better job of keeping in touch.
Dammit, now I've gone and gotten all sappy too and I've stayed up past my bedtime. Catch you hooligans later.
